The Next Update

When we initially launched NextUpdate.com, I alluded to the name having many possible interpretations, but after the recent post about launching, I started thinking about it again and thought it was worth expanding upon.

Much of the relatively new technology we use and rely upon is centered around updates. RSS. Twitter. Software. Even new editions of books. In the world of technology things can, and do, change quickly. To stay on top of it all is difficult, but, if you're anything like me, there are countless situations where the next update for a given product or feed is something worth looking forward to.

When I started building Sifter, I wanted to release it when I felt like I had all of the primary features finished. Since it was something I had to work on in between client work, I didn't want to force a deadline on myself. The launch of Sifter could have been, and likely would have been sometime after the middle of the year.

However, the whole idea behind Sifter, and anything we do in the future, is based on continual progress and the next update. I'd rather have a simple but valuable working product in everyone's hands tomorrow than a "finished" product in everyone's hands months from now. Some of you might be a little disappointed out of the gate, but as long as you share your ideas and needs, I can assure you we'll be working to remedy it with the next update. And the next one. And the next one.
